Former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found dead near Palo Verde, Calif. on Monday. He was 37 years old. This was confirmed by his management company to MMAWeekly.com.

What was supposed to be a routine trek into the desert to “cleanse” himself, turned to be deadly for Tanner. It was something that he had done numerous times over the years. What is believed to have taken place is that Evan's motorcycle had run out of gas. Tanner went to walk out in 115- to 118-degree heat since he was miles away from his camp. It is believed that he succumbed to the heat.

Tanner will surely be missed in the MMA world as he was not just a fighter, but a person with a truly unique personality. His eclectic spirit and competitive persona will be a loss for the MMA community.
